Van Strikes 13-Year-Old, Flees the Scene

Around 3:55 this afternoon, we got another hit-and-run case in Fort Lauderdale. Sounds like this case will be easier to break than the others, thanks to a motorist who chased down the suspect. From the Fort Lauderdale police news release:

Investigators have learned that a 2001 Dodge van was traveling westbound on State Road 84 in the 1200 block. A thirteen year-old male was running across the westbound lanes of State Road 84 in the 1200 block. The front of the Dodge van struck the minor. The Dodge van stopped, backed-up and then proceeded westbound on State Road 84 fleeing the scene. The minor was transported to Broward General Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

A witness followed the Dodge van to a location in Plantation. The vehicle was located by Plantation Police Department unoccupied. Plantation K-9 units performed an area search and no one was located.

The investigation into this hit and run accident continues.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this is encouraged to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Donald Goedke at 954-828-5754 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
