Twenty-five cows meandered through downtown West Palm Beach today. Their leisurely noontime stroll, part of a month-long series of events called "Cowboys on the Waterfront," attracted plenty of gawkers and the occasional "yee-haw."

Early on, one of the horses escorting the cattle left a deposit in the roadway, reminding onlookers why cows are not always welcome on Clematis Street. "I don't like this," said one worried woman, peering out the doorway of Mac Fabrics.

But the schoolkids standing outside the library couldn't get enough of the City Slickers parade. "You saw cows and cowboys!" one woman explained to a toddler. Yes, yes you did.
