Harumi Abe mixes sunny Florida landscapes with her memories of growing up in Japan to create personal pieces that can't be matched. This weekend, she'll talk about her inspirations and recent projects at the Girls' Club Collection as part of the Artists in Action! series. She's been featured in group and solo exhibitions at various galleries in South Florida, including the Hollywood Art and Culture Center, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, and the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami. Abe's collection "134 Days and 21 Hours" describes her personal journey for home with contemporary pieces influenced by the 2011 tsunami in Japan. The exhibit was featured in the Lee Wagener Art Gallery in the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport in 2013 and is currently part of Girls' Club's "I Think It's in My Head" exhibition. Artists in Action! with Harumi Abe is on Friday at 7 p.m. at 117 NE Second St. in Fort Lauderdale. The show is free, and seats are first-come, first-seated.
