By the time we hit the holiday season, we may look back and say 2016 was the year of the comic book. Already this year we've seen Superman vs. Batman, Suicide Squad, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Deadpool hit the big screen. More than ever, Hollywood is bringing DC and Marvel scripts to life. Enter Lauderdale Comics.
Lauderdale Comics, a comics emporium that opened near the corner of 17th Street and Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale this past May, couldn't have timed its grand opening more perfectly. The new shop isn't your dad's comic-book store filled with bins of comics separated by cardboard sheets. Rather, it's often referred to as a comics lounge. The space resembles a wondrous art gallery more than a traditional comics-and-cards shop.
Now Lauderdale Comics is teaming up with the We Seen't It! podcast crew for the store's first live-stream event, taking place this Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. Store manager Matt Sadowitz tells New Times the live-stream partnership with We Seen't It! will be a power hour of everything you'd expect to hear when you walk into the beautiful Lauderdale Comics lounge.
"We'll be doing a Q&A between [We Seen't It! hosts] Kev and Pat and [Lauderdale Comics owner] Stacey Giulianti and myself," Sadowitz says. "We'll be chatting about comic books, movies, and pop/nerd culture in general. We will also be doing an interactive trivia game with prizes."
Lauderdale Comics has big plans in terms of the live stream and social media space.

According to We Seen't It! host Kevin Muñoz, teaming up with Lauderdale Comics for this event was a no-brainer, as was using Facebook Live.
"The store is clean, pristine, and they have an awesome selection of comics and memorabilia. They are known for hosting numerous events that showcase local artists."
Fans of We Seen't It! and Lauderdale Comics can either stop by the store during the event or follow along online. According to Muñoz, it will be an hour full of information and comics discussion not only by the hosts and store owner, but also by the fans themselves.
"Fans of comic book films and TV will definitely love this live stream, and the great part about it is that they can stream it live from Facebook," Muñoz says. "They can interact with us by leaving comments in real time, and everyone can participate in the movie-trivia challenge at the end."
Sadowitz says Lauderdale Comics has big plans for the future in terms of the live stream and social media space, but as the store transitions from its infant stages, he's excited to get some content off the ground and to the fans with the help of the We Seen't It! crew.
"We would love to do more," Sadowitz says. "We will have to see how this one goes. I know that we want to start our own podcasts and live streams, but we would also love to have We Seen't It! or other podcasts come in for events and fun times."
