Some people exercise to de-stress; others do it for health; a few join athletic clubs to meet people. The vast majority, however, work out to look good. Whatever your reason for keeping fit, though, here’s your chance for doubling up on the profits: The Tour de Broward is coming up Sunday. Sanctioned as one of the 100 county events to celebrate Broward County’s 100th birthday, the tour raises funds for South Broward’s only pediatric hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
Now in its sixth year, the high-cardio event supports programs ranging from the hospital’s Heart Institute (with one of only two pediatric heart transplant programs in South Florida) to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Sponsored by Invicta, the Tour de Broward this year includes additional activities to appeal to everyone: adults, kids, physically challenged athletes, and wounded warriors. There’s a 3K walk and a 5K timed run. For cyclers, there are 50K and 100K rides. It even features a “power of play” kids’ zone, to keep the little ones happy and active. Registration fees range from $10 to $40 depending on the event. Virtual participants, who just want to donate, can register for $19.92. Tour de Broward takes place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miramar Regional Park, located at 16801 Miramar Parkway in Miramar. Call 954-265-7241, or visit tourdebroward.com.
