We're not really sure how much "crap" the folks over at Buzz 103.1 have "cut through" in the past 15 years, but one thing's for sure: They love reppin' the Sunshine State.
The radio station even put a contest together to add some more local talent to this year's festival lineup, enticing a few dozen bands with promises of a slot in return for submitting their music and putting their bands under a microscope in front of a panel of 25 judges. The results? Leading the Heroes, D.V.N.O., Fall of Envy, Hollywood Love Scene, and Stellar Revival.
Stellar Revival drummer Andrew Koussevitzky was obviously happy with the results. "We actually got involved with the Bake Sale because one of the DJs
over at the Buzz suggested we throw our name in the running to play it," he says.
"Fortunately, the panel who selected the bands seemed to really like our
music."
The drummer turned law student has a lot of big plans for the band, among them a full-length LP that they're finishing up later this year and a music video for their latest single, "Naughty Train." "The Buzz Bake Sale is obviously very high on the priority list at the moment, as well as some touring early next year," says Koussevitzky.
Stellar Revival's smooth Southern sound is a good fit for the Bake Sale, mixing an almost lullaby love song aesthetic (as seen in "Alive") with down-and-dirty Southern-rock anthems (as seen in "Naughty Train"). But the real icing on their cake? "It's funny because I actually have my last law school final exam the day before the bake sale."
