Every year, band after band plays the shit out of their instruments on the SunFest stages. At the edge of the ocean, on the sand, drink in hand, there's really no better spot to watch some of history's greatest and potentially greatest musicians perform.

This year's lineup is crazy with Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Cliff, Ed Sharpe, and Kendrick Lamar. And some lucky local fuckers are going to have the opportunity to play at the festival alongside these big ol' national acts. The competition has begun, and you have some say in who the winner is.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is hosting Rock-n-Roll Shootout for the fourth year, a battle of the bands of sorts. The winner -- one rock or blues band -- gets the priceless gift of playing the same event as Billy freakin' Corgan. This year, instead of just harnessing the power of live performance, the casino is bringing in the internet's opinion.

You can vote ahead of time for your favorite band. The competition is a four-week affair and started yesterday. The winner of last Tuesday's battle was groove rock act Urban Rebel (who are performing at STFUfest at Culture Room this weekend). Those performing at the second competition on the 19th include: the JD Danner Band, JC Crossfire, the 13s, the Baron Sisters, the Scumdogs, Walk of Shame. So if you dig any of those acts, get voting. Cause you will determine who the ultimate winner is. You and the judges, which the Palm Beach Post wrote includes: John Pastorius (son of legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius), Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain, Andy Preston of Gater 98.7 FM, and SunFest's JJ Wolf.

The next competitions are on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., March 19, 26, and April 2 at Nectar Lounge at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, 5555 NW 40 Street, Coconut Creek. The final live competition is at 8 p.m., on Saturday, April 13, and the winner performs on May 2, Tire Kingdom Stage. Vote for your favorite bands here.
