Miami, Las Vegas, New York City, London, and Tokyo -- these cities are known to be the nightlife meccas of the world. But who's to say West Palm Beach can't be added to that list?
Nightclub tastemakers Michael Bergos and Michael Stein think it's possible, thus birthing the Gotham City-inspired nightclub Club New York. The venue's goal is to bring the extraordinary Big Apple flavor to the burgeoning West Palm Beach scene. Housed in a 9,000-square-foot space within CityPlace, Club New York will transport partygoers from West Palm's concrete sidewalks to the heart of downtown Manhattan.
Club New York is set to open on Friday, March 2, with resident DJ Astro, an authentic NYC hot-dog cart serving crispy pretzels and hot dogs, and a colorful array of signature drinks to complete the full New York City experience.
In preparation for the big opening night, we've compiled a list of songs dedicated to showing love for the city that never sleeps.
5. "Empire State of Mind" - Jay-Z with Alicia Keys
No doubt, this was an obvious choice. It's pretty much become the modern-day anthem for the city that never sleeps. Still, it's still a winner in our books. Plus, can anyone really resist singing along to that chorus? Didn't think so.
4. "Walk on the Wild Side" - Lou Reed
Admittedly, this is a bit of a colorful choice. But, only rock 'n' roll legend Lou Reed could have created such an odd tribute to the Big Apple. Painting a sexually vivid picture of trannies, prostitutes, and reckless beings, Reed truly invites you to walk on the wild side of the gritty streets of New York.
3. "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" - LCD Soundsystem
LCD frontman and musical genius James Murphy is known for churning out the disco hits and dance beats. So we're still a little confused about where this melodic ballad came from. Perhaps his deep, dark heart that belongs to the City of New York? Regardless, whatever the answer may be, we still love it, and so should you.
2. "The Rising" - Bruce Springsteen
There is no denying the fact that "The Boss" is a New Jersey boy through and through. But, when his neighbor New York City fell under the 9/11 attacks, he gathered his E Street team to produce The Rising -- an album about tragedy, hope, death, and rebirth. The title track is an uplifting, goosebumps-inducing, anthemic tribute to the rebuilding of New York City.
