Let's be honest here for a second: I can't be as honest as I would like to be when it comes to what really happens when I am out and about shooting away the nightlife. As much as I'd love to share what I see and hear in front of and behind the velvet ropes, my camera and I are semi-well-known around these parts. If I really told the whole truth, I could be black-listed (as I already am, some places) from certain venues or parties.

I've shot in almost every club in this town and I've seen it all, from the rudest door people to the bitchiest bartenders (and this is before their tip). For out-of-towners who e-mail me asking what party they should go to, I can't really recommend anything. Everyone has his or her own preferred style of music and his or her own idea of clubbing. But please don't think you need to spend hundreds of dollars or have a door guy belittle you, because that's not all that Miami clubbing is about.

Speaking of door people, last week I got into it with some door person at a party I was invited to shoot. Honey, I've gotten into a battle with Kenny Kenny (please Google him if you don't know who he is -- and shame on you if you're a clubber if that's a case). And I still got into the club -- which means I can handle anything! Now, I don't recommend this to anyone because fighting back with a door person won't get you in, so save your energy, save your money and go somewhere else. You'll feel better in the morning.

Not all is as evil as I've been making it sound, and one party I do recommend time and time again is Chocolate Sundays at Purdy Lounge on South Beach. It's as good as ever with no ropes, no fuss, good music, and great vibes. The main room is about bopping your heads to hip-hop and the back has a mixed selection. This party always makes me feel good the next  morning with something good to talk about.
