Over her multi-decade career, the powerful vocals of Loleatta Holloway moved a variety of bodies in all sorts of settings. According to her manager Ron Richardson, the Chicago native died Monday after a brief illness. She was 64.

First as a gospel singer, then an R&B/soul artist, and a disco queen, Holloway proved to be a versatile singer who could pound out melodies with unmatched force. She is perhaps most familiar to younger listeners the female voice on Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's "Good Vibrations" (which owes a great debt to the MixMaster's "Grand Piano"), Moby's "Move," and Black Box's "Ride on Time" which all sample her biggest hit, "Love Sensation."
