The Soul Rebels
There couldn't have been a more fitting moniker for legendary NOLA brass band the Soul Rebels than the Soul Rebels. "We named it after the Bob Marley song," explained Lumar LeBlanc, the snare player of the eight-piece collective, to New Times earlier this year of their name. "We wanted to be a voice for people who weren't being heard, and what we'd be rebelling against is negativity." Twenty-five years later, the band is still livin' up to its purpose — last year, the "funk, hip-hop, soul, jazz" crew paid tribute to Michael Brown at the Brooklyn Bowl during its performance of "Hardknock" with Joey Bada$$.

Dance Gavin Dance
You won't hear funky disco tunes at a Dance Gavin Dance concert. But you'll surely be in for some Instant "Screamo/Psychedelic/Punk" Gratification when the California-based rockers take the stage at Culture Room. Celebrating a decade of hardcore tuneage, the guys will be joined by fellow punks Slaves, a Lot Like Birds, DayShell, and Strawberry Girls during their Fort Lawdy gig.

Seratones & St. Paul and the Broken Bones
"I try to remember, first and foremost, I'm a storyteller, and all our songs are stories," Seratones singer and guitarist A.J. Haynes told New Times in a recent interview. While the band has been officially together for two years, Haynes and the boys will finally be taking their "swampish mix of influences and experiences into a Mississippi studio to record their first album." But first, the Shreveport, Louisiana, rock 'n' roll band will be finishing up its final string of tour dates, which will bring it to Culture Room this week as it opens for St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
Saturday, December 5, 8 p.m. Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale; 954-564-1074; cultureroom.net. Tickets cost $20 plus fees via ticketmaster.com.

An Evening With Lucero
Playing anywhere between 150 to 200 shows yearly, Lucero, as pointed out by New Times, is "one of, if not the hardest-working band in the indie world and the music scene at large." Check out the Memphis-bred alt-country punks as they bring one of their many shows to Culture Room this week.
