Five Things to Do Under $10 This Weekend in South Florida

Greetings, fellow penny-pinchers! It's time for your weekly rundown of all the supercool yet refreshingly cheap stuff you should do this weekend. Read on for details on an ugly sweater videogame party, a toy-drive benefit show, a “PopPunkmas” concert, and more.

First Friday at C&I Studios
8 p.m. Friday, December 4, at C&I Studios, 541 NW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale; $3 cover or free with full game set; Visit Facebook. 

Usually an art haven and studio, C&I Studios will transport guests to a gaming cave for those who like to partake in a bit of friendly competition of their Friday night. This month's themed event will feature arcade games, classic tabletop games, and modern games. Think you've got skills? Enter the Ultra Street Fighter IV Tournament for $5 to win the $100 grand prize. Too broke to pay? There's also the 2-on-2 Rocket League Tournament. 'Tis the season, so donning ugly sweaters is encouraged (fair warning, though: This event will be posted to social media).

The Nightmare Before PopPunkmas
6 p.m. Friday, December 4, at Absent Hearts Studios, 3685 Investment Lane, West Palm Beach; $8 cover if you’re dressed up, $10 cover if you’re not; Visit Facebook. 

Get a taste of indie-rock and pop-punk thanks to Absent Hearts Studios. The lineup is chock-full, with a lineup of eight bands including Games We Play, Confidence Beyond Chaos, the Already Gone, Snowmoon, and more. It’s time to rock out, and rock out hard, preferably in a Santa hat.


Toys For Tots Benefit Show
10 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at Respectable Street. 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach; Cover is an unwrapped toy; Visit Facebook. 

Respectable Street is being more than just respectable this Saturday; they’re getting into the spirit and being downright generous. The venue will host a Toys for Tots Benefit Show featuring local bands Johnny Raincloud, Sweet Bronco, and Raggy Monster. Show out for the bands and come with a new, unwrapped toy in tow to score not only free admission, but your good deed gold star of the day.

The Drip Effect at Propaganda
8 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at Propaganda Lake Worth. 6 S. J St., Lake Worth; $10 cover 18+, $5 cover 21+; Visit Facebook. 

It’s a night of alternative and indie-rock at Propaganda this Saturday, and you’re invited. The Drip Effect, the Metropolitan, Embers Fall, and Mandy Moon will rock the house with their sweet musical talents. Happy hour from 8 until 10 p.m. offers 2-for-1 cocktails and half-off drafts to keep you just the right amount of toasty.

Bad Apples Brass Band at Dada
10 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at Dada, 52 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach; No cover; Visit Facebook. 

Bad Apples Brass Band (try saying that five times fast) will show Dada how their jazz, funk, and second-line tunes bring down the house. We bet this band kicks some brass (we couldn't help it!). This day also happens to be Repeal Day — the day in 1933 when Prohibition ended — so Dada is celebrating our right to drink alcohol with, what else, tons of alcohol. There will be speakeasy-inspired drink specials, and those dressed in 1920s and 1930s attire will be gifted with one free adult beverage.
