Yo no creo en nadie!

My love for my roots and subsequent displays of Cubaneo are no secret. Cuban culture is a beautiful thing, and despite the stranglehold of a 50-year dictatorship, nowhere has it shone more than in music. Which is why I want to take a moment to talk to you about timba.

No, not Cuco's trusty second in command (pictured at right), nor that most delicious of deserts comprised solely of sliced guayaba and cream cheese. Timba is a style of music best described as a spot on the map somewhere between son and salsa.

It's a relatively new style of music from the island and no one outside

of Cuba is doing it better than Miami's own El Pikete Live.

The band officially came together in 2006 after a long series of events beginning as far back as the 1990s, with members migrating from such bands as Team Cuba, Paulo FG, Manolín, and Dan Den. Get a yourself little taste of timba this Saturday at Transit Lounge when El Pikete does what they do best.

 El Pikete Live plays at Transit Lounge (729 SW 1st Ave) along with DJ Cabrera this Saturday, May 2 at 11 p.m.  Entrance is free, as always.
