Tonight marks the end of an era at the Gold Coast Roller Skating Rink, which scrapes the glittery bottom of Fort Lauderdale. With the rink officially closing after Sunday, this is the final Tuesday night party in the space. Not only will this be the last night of Gay Skate/Intoxiskate, a party that has carried forth for the past 43 years, many other Gold Coast revelers are set to be in the building. Although operations manager Miles Miron has taken his wheels home (read our interview with him here), one such individual, who claims to feel more comfy in a pair of skates than shoes, is Sweat Records' Lauren "Lolo" Reskin.
In 2006 and 2007, Reskin attracted comers from all corners of South Florida for Roll Out parties featuring a wide variety of freestyle, synthesizer pop, and disco-flavored dance tracks that have the ideal BPM for fancy footwork, flashy all-around rolling, and looking fresh with your homeboys and homegirls. In memory of many high-powered Roll Out nights, we asked her to dig into her old playlists for some of the choicest skate jams and her commentary.
