Lauderdale Live 2015 Brings O.A.R. and Phillip Phillips to Downtown Fort Lauderdale

Even though nearly every day feels like July in South Florida, June 21 will mark the first official day of summer. On the weekend of this year’s solstice, the second edition of Lauderdale Live will be held in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Live music does make leaving the house to get all hot and sweaty seem like a more attractive proposition.

The festivities will begin Friday, June 19, with a VIP prefestival, but the lineup over the course of the weekend includes some serious talent. Saturday, June 20, will be an American Idol-heavy day. Phillip Phillips — who won the 2012 season of American Idol — will headline the show. The day's openers will include Kris Allen — who won American Idol in 2009 — along with Nashville singer-songwriter Ben Rector and his fellow Tennesseans Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors (neither of which have ever won American Idol, but it's statistically probable they have watched the program once or twice). Sunday, June 21, at 12:38 p.m. is the official precise beginning of summer. And that day will be dedicated to some throbbing rock ’n’ roll. Headliners will be the multiplatinum -elling O.A.R., singers of “Shattered (Turn This Car Around)” and “This Town.” Opening will be Florida’s own Sister Hazel, who still tour with all their founding members from those ‘90s glory years, when the band was starting out in the swamps of Gainesville. New Orleans' Dumpstaphunk will be laying down its brand of funk, and Texan Luke Wade will be crooning his confessional rock throughout the day as well.

General admission and VIP tickets are available on lauderdalelivemusic.com and ticketmaster.com, with tickets ranging from $39.50 to $299.50 plus service fees. Sunscreen, hydration, and insect repellant are sold separately.
