​If "Chicano rock" ain't your bag, then you might not know Los Lobos too well. But at the very least, you should recognize them from the soundtrack to that 80's flick with Lou Diamond Phillips sporting a guitar and a Superman curl. You know the one, he dies in the end in a plane crash along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, and piano bars around the world would forever have Don McLean's classic to add to their catalog as a result (of the actual tragedy, not the movie). Anyway, that cover of the Richie Valens classic "La Bamba" would effectively put Los Lobos on the map after some nearly 10 years in the biz.

The band's come a long way, even since that milestone though. They've dropped another dozen or so records and picked up a few Grammy awards along the way (three, to be exact). And they even scored Robert Rodriguez's brilliant over-the-top shoot-em-up action Desperado, the theme song from which actually contributed to one of those prestigious gold gramophones. You can expect to hear "La Bamba" when they play Magic City Casino this Saturday, and you can expect a whole lot more. These guys haven't been rocking for damn near 40 years for nothing.

Los Lobos play Magic City Casino on Saturday, February 6 at 3pm. Tickets are $24 to $40.
