Morrissey Returns to South Florida (Maybe?) on Feb. 28

mozalbum.jpgFor hardcore Morrissey fans, especially those of us in South Florida, 2007 was somewhat emotionally tumultuous. First, he played an amazing summer show here, in support of Ringleader of the Tormenters -- good (in spite of the cruel heat). Except the show was at the Mizner Park Amphitheatre in Boca -- bad if you live in Miami or South Broward, or are severely allergic to concerts held in outdoor malls.

Then, Moz announced he would, that fall, embark on his last tour ever "for the foreseeable future", and it wasn't going to come down here again -- bad. Then, he extended the tour dates, with one at the Fillmore Miami Beach as the very last date of this extended leg -- good! And then, of course, the very day of the gig, he got "sick," and cancelled the show that afternoon. How convenient, considering this illness would allow him to return home from the whole shebang a day earlier. Oh, then it turned out that wasn't his last tour after all. J/k, guys!

Frankly, we're sick of him toying with us by this point, but he's

tossing us a couple bones in early 2009. First, he's releasing a new

album, Years of Refusal, in February -- good if you're a solo Moz fan, a nonissue if you're a Smiths purist. Second, he's embarking on yet another extensive U.S. tour -- and the press releases circulating through the usual blogosphere suspects (Brooklynvegan, Pitchfork, etc.) show an initial date on Feb. 28 at Mizner Park, again. (Why? Morrissey wears suits onstage!). Thats good ... but don't get too excited yet.

Here's the weird and uncertain part though. While the official press

release circulating through the rest of the blogosphere says he is,

indeed, going to perform that South Florida date, click on his official web site, and the tour dates begin with the Sunday, March 1 date at Orlando's Hard Rock Live. Ticketmaster, as well, shows no ticket presale information for the Feb. 28 date either.

What gives? Does someone out there who's a more hardcore fan than me know what

s going on? Morrissey's usual tour publicists have no further information right now either. Ugh! Crossfade will fill you in as soon as we get clearer details.

Cross your fingers, but don't get your hopes up -- oh, if you're a Morrissey fan, you're doubtless used to all kinds of heartbreak anyways. If you don't want to chance it, ticket presales for the Orlando dates go on sale through Ticketmaster on Dec. 19.
