With the economy going way south, it seems like the nightlife industry is starting to implement new business tactics. Bottle service is surely going the way of the dinosaur, and the industry knows if it's going to survive its got to find untapped market.
Enter in the downtown hipster promoters.
Often relegated to the seedy downtown/Overtown nightclub scene, it seems they are now in vogue with South Beach's nightlife impresarios. Poplife hosts now at Louis on Tuesdays and Rokbar on Thursdays, while Lolo Reskin and Co. of Sweat Records get the Delano's Florida Room moving on Thursdays with its new Under Cover night. Let's not forget the quick rise Bella Rose's Black Sunday which is essential a downtown party in South Beach, and Off The Radar's stint every Wednesday at The Standard.
So are downtown hipster promoters the new black? Well, while you ponder the answer to that, here is what you can plan to do this weekend:
Like we said earlier, Poplife is partnering up with Rokbar for Good Clean Fun, the lounge's newest Thursday night venture featuring Danny Daze. The party promises a mixture of downtown's hipsteratti mixed with South Beach's beautiful people.
And as far as Lolo Reskin and Co.'s party, also on Thursday, Under Cover at the Delano's Florida Room features ANR as the house band covering everything from the classics to current indie-rock hits. Best thing about the party: there is no cover.
Friday, Safe returns with another party, this time at Glass. Berlin's Sammy Dee will be spinning alongside Simon Wish. You can still get tickets via wantickets.com.
Also, frequent New Times/CrossFade, John Hood, returns for round two of Thug Sinatra at Provocateur. Miami's original badboy will be singing jazzed up versions of some of your favorite hip-hop hits.
Love folky indie hits that provide the soundtrack to iPod commercials? Then don't miss Chairlift at White Room Saturday night. The Brooklyn trio rose to fame after their track "Bruises" was feature in the latest iPod nano commercial.
And finally, Sunday night, NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony plays hosting duties at Mansion where hip-hop heavyweight DJ Khaled will be provided the sounds for the Strip Tease Sunday party. Ladies get in free before midnight.
