People might give Wilton Manors all the credit as the center of gay

cheer and merrymaking in South Florida, but years ago, Lake Worth was

voted the most gay-friendly city of its size. And before Lake Worth's

Propaganda became a hotbed of indie rock and hipsterlicious schmoozing,

it was one of the premier gay clubs in the area. Now Propaganda will

host its first lesbian night, "Sapphic Thursday," named for the

famed poet and lady lover Sappho. The female bespectacled duo the State

Of, consisting of Steph Taylor and Nabedi Orsorio, will open the night

playing their signature breathy pop that is dark, minimalist, and

incorporates electronica stylings to its percussive approach.

Expect covers of the Cure and the Bangles. Rounding out the creative draw will be T-shirt designer Amy Love, who sells shirts that urge you to wear your broken heart -- or happy heart -- on your sleeve. Bonnie Riot's Fern E. will rock the ones and twos, making sure the dance floor helps you forget that broken heart, whether its on your sleeve or not. Oh, if that's not enough grrrly bonding and empowerment, if you get there before 11 p.m., enjoy a free "aborted fetus shot."

Sapphic Thursday starts at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13 at Propaganda, located at 6 S. J St. in Lake Worth. Admission costs $5. Visit propagandalw.com.
