Protagonist Gear Stolen in Tulsa, Band Accepting Donations

The next time you're browsing for guitars on eBay, look for a 1981 Gibson SG with a Paper and Plastick skull sticker on the back, or a Sparrow Les Paul, also donning a Paper and Plastick skull sticker. They may belong to Boca punk band Protagonist, who have become the latest South Florida group in a month to get its gear stolen. (In mid-May, New Times reported that Miami bands Torche and Awesome New Republic were also victims of thieving assholes.) Posting a blog on its MySpace page Monday, Protagonist outlined the $22,000 worth of equipment lost at a Day's Inn in Tulsa, OK. The band had driven 18 hours from Florida to Tulsa to record with Stephen Egerton of Descendents fame.

According to the band's blog, all the equipment was in a trailer attached to their van. The thieves picked the lock, cut the chains attaching the trailer to the van, and "left no trace of the trailer behind."
