The Red Hot Chili Peppers' U.S. tour dates -- their first live onslaught of this level since the 2007 Stadium Arcadium jaunt -- begin right here in South Florida this coming January.
Aside from a big, blistering set of new tunes from I'm With You, this tour will introduce RHCP's recently installed eighth (or ninth) lead guitarist Josh Klinghoffer on a grand scale. Klinghoffer was a touring guitarist with the band on the 2007 trek, and is a personal buddy of the exiting axeman John Frusciante. He's also 17 years Anthony Kiedis' junior. So, even if Frusciante is cool with the new situation, Klinghoffer is the guy with the most to prove.
Now, the National Anthem is far from the definitive piece of music to determine a guy's musical mettle, but we played this version for a team of expert(s) -- AKA, a known Frusciante-phile -- and got the response "dumpy" regarding Klinghoffer's guitar work.
Still, here at County Grind, we root for the underdog! (Plus, Klinghoffer has had a hand in the studio with L.A.'s premiere female indie rock group Warpaint.) Let's roll out those dates.
