New Times Broward-Palm Beach Calendar Editor Mickie Centrone attends and details some of the finest -- and occasionally subpar -- events from a given week. On Saturday, she crashed Respectable Street's 23rd Anniversary Street Party at Clematis Street in West Palm Beach.

"What do you keep in there?" I ask the tranny who is lifting up her dress to get something out of her purse. Her "purse" area is where her package would typically be, if it weren't tucked away. Daisy D., the resident tranny DJ of the Lounge, replies, "Wallet, a percocet or two... my pride, a little regret, and a pinch of duct tape." (Don't bust her, Men in Blue, the percs were prescribed -- she got a nose job.) I'm at the Lounge for Respectable Street's 23rd Anniversary Street Party. Alexander just got done performing. Now, two young men are sweetly kissing during a prog rock set from Lavola. The crowd is a mix of regular indie show attendees, people who crashed the party solely for the free pizza and booze, local musicians, and gays -- win.

But the big win of tonight goes to the indie haircut. Perhaps, it was because Flock of Seagulls headlined Respec's anniversary two years ago, but there's no denying it: Frontman Mike Score's waterfall coif would be proud of this crowd's modern takes, which are everywhere, of the indie 'do.
