Our sister paper, the LA Weekly, reported this morning on some sad news for longtime local scene-watchers. The artist and musician Brad Stewart, a.k.a. Gidget Gein, was found dead yesterday in his home in Burbank. He was born and raised around Hollywood, Florida, and gained notoriety in the Nineties as the second bassist for Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. Reportedly kicked out of the band for drug problems, he was replaced by former roadie Jeordie White, a.k.a. Twiggy Ramirez, who Gein would accuse of stealing much of his look and musical style.

Still, Gein led a rich artistic life post-Manson, starting a new band, the Dali Gaggers, in New York in the late Nineties. He left South Florida for L.A. in 2004, where his art shows were highly anticipated and well received. At the time of his death, Gein was working on a new solo album with producer Dave Jerden, who's worked with Jane's Addiction, Social Distortion, and Alice in Chains.
