The trailer for Rock of Ages -- the big-budget musical starring
Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Mary J.
Blige, Julianne Hough, and a ton of other people with haircuts from 25
years ago -- is now online. You might recall that the production was
filmed here in South Florida earlier this year, and now this is the
first look at how the film is actually going to turn out.
Unsurprisingly, things are a bit ridiculous.
puke," says Alec Baldwin, who favors animal print to get into character
as Bourbon Room owner Dennis Dupree. The inside of Fort Lauderdale rock
club Revolution serves as the Bourbon Room stage, and anyone who has
ever attended a show there can recognize the sunken floor, and the
balcony wrapped around it.
Miami's semi-seedy Overtown
neighborhood is gussied up to become the bustling Sunset Strip, which is
the exterior for the Bourbon Room.
And another notable location
from the film: the Hollywood sign. Located atop the garbage dump
affectionately known at Mount Trashmore at Monarch Hill Renewable Energy Park between Coconut Creek and Deerfield Beach. It's
horrifying to watch Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta in a scene near the
Hollywood letters and imagine what they must be smelling.
And there's just a lot more of Tom Cruise as the rock star Stacee Jaxx has what looks like bats wings tattooed to his back, yet another Rolling Stone with his face on it, and he eventually is filmed doing what he's likely been asked to do thousands of times before: sign a boob.
