Despite the bad economy, the city is buzzing with rumors about nightclubs opening and closing. There is already a deathlist circulating of mostly South Beach clubs that soon will be shutting their doors due to poor sales. We aren't going to mention names, but any place that is relying heavily on bottle service these days should be afraid. Is this you, Trash?
But the biggest news is the rumors about Cameo and Parkwest, both which are owned by Louis Puig (owner of Space). Rumors that Cameo shut down permanently after Memorial Day weekend are untrue, according to our sources.
Parkwest on the other hand is done. Seems like the Twilo curse continues. Unfortunately for Parkwest, it never got its footing off the ground. At first it seemed like it wanted to compete with the Studio A and Pawn Shop set, but when that didn't work out it change more to traditional house, and after that it just went straight up hip-hop. It also didn't help that the venue was shut down a month or so after opening after it was discovered it didn't have its permits in order.
But that doesn't mean the 11th Street locale is going to remain vacant for very long. Last week, Herald gossip columnist Lesley Abravanel reported
that nightlife gurus Emi Guerra and Michael Tronn have already snatched
up the place and are already looking for people to come on board as
staff. What got us all confused was the name. According to the ad and website, the venue is going to called Fame, but Abravanel clearly states that the name is Trash. So which is it?
Sources confirm that Trash is definitely the name they are going with.
Which got us thinking, where have we heard that name before? Excluding
the former Pawn Shop Thursday night party the went by the same name
(well, Trashed to be exact), mysterious ads have appeared in our very
paper telling people to go to a site called IAmTrash.com, as well as some sprinkling of advertisements around the city here and there. New Times' ad sales department won't confirm nor deny that the ads were placed by Guerra and Tronn.
No word yet exactly when Trash/Fame/the-nightclub-formely-known-as-Twilo-and-Parkwest plans to open.
