Fitting that Surfer Blood's appearance on A.V. Undercover, a not-so-joke-laden entertainment property of the Onion, features a cover of the classic Pixies' song "Gigantic." Aside from the assertion that drummer T.J. Schwarz "does a really nice Kim Deal impersonation," the band has expressed some admiration for the Boston alt-rock pioneers in past interviews and on recent new material that has shown up in live performances (check the second track here).

For this particular performance, filmed in the Chicago A.V. Club office, Surfer Blood enlists Girls at Dawn drummer Sarah Baldwin on lead vocals. Right down to the Black Francis howls, performed by J.P. Pitts, this is a faithful interpretation probably taped after they drank a ton of Jones Soda.

P.S. The A.V. Club fact-checkers should know that Kevin Williams is the bassist now.

Bonus: Here's the same grouping performing "Gigantic" live at Chicago's Bottom Lounge back in May.
