Mendez-Alvarez is accused of hit and run.
John Jayne was riding his motorcycle west in the center lane of Lantana Road on August 14 when a 1994 Nissan Maxima swerved in front of him. The 42-year-old Jayne hit the car's back bumper, then flipped off his motorcycle, which landed on top of him. He died two days later of head injuries. The Nissan driver fled the scene.

Now the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office believes it's found him: Santos T. Mendez-Alvarez, who was arrested Wednesday, charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving without a license.

The PBSO release doesn't say how investigators came to the conclusion that the 27-year-old Mendez-Alvarez was the driver. His jail file lists an address on Sunset Drive in Lake Worth.
