Two Pompano men are being held in Broward County Jail after cops busted their massively elaborate prostitution business.
According to the Broward Assistant State Attorney, Douglas Juiffre, 58, and Joshua Rubenstein, 34, ran their all-cash business from a Pompano office space that doubled as a call center they dubbed AAAA Associates. The men put up ads on Craigslist and Backpage as well as Broward-Palm Beach New Times under the "adult entertainment" section, according to police.
AAAA Associates would take calls from the office space and set clients up with prostitutes. Clients would then be set up with limo rides to meet their escorts for sexual activities.
In all, Juiffre and Rubenstein would earn $150,000 to $200,000 a month.
According to a police affidavit, an informant helped the Fort Lauderdale Police and the Broward Sheriff's Office in a joint effort to bust up the ring.
The informant was used to set up an undercover officer with AAAA Associates. The undercover officer posed as a man looking for a job as a driver.
The affidavit says drivers were urged to coax escorts to "go from date to date as fast as possible, it would benefit everyone and [the drivers] could easily expect to make $300 per night."
The investigation uncovered that a client was charged $180 for a one-hour date with an escort. The prostitute was given $70 from those arrangements, while drivers were given $30. The remaining balance would go to AAAA Associates.
"If it's a two-girl, or two-hour special, the price is $340, $20 off," according to the affidavit.
Agents raided Rubenstein's office on McNab Road in Pompano Beach on Thursday and arrested him.
On Friday, he appeared before a judge, where Rubenstein's father asked for leniency.
"I'm just absolutely shocked," he said, via the Sun-Sentinel. "I don't know what to say. He's a good boy. Does whatever I asked. I don't know what to say in a situation like this."
During his appearance, Juiffre asked the judge for an ankle bracelet but was denied.
Juiffre was charged with five felonies, including living off the proceeds of prostitution, money laundering, and racketeering and is being held in the Broward County Jail on $225,000 bond.
Rubenstein, who is facing similar charges, is being held in lieu of $180,000 bond.
