Get your game face ready, South Florida. And your unemployment checks. And your mortgage payment. And your kid's lunch money.
You might need it all if you plan on buying-in at the $1,600 main event during the World Series of Poker first-ever Florida circuit event.
This year, the World Series of Poker has chosen the Palm Beach Kennel Club in
West Palm Beach as the location for its only Florida-based circuit
event since the
state did away with its $100 cap on poker buy-ins late last year, a decision made in hopes of bringing in over $500 million in additional revenue.
It's good news for the
estimated 800 high-stakes poker players expected to participate daily in
the World Series' tenth national circuit event that began today and runs through March 1. Participants will be spending an average of $300 to
buy-in at the 10 ring-event.
And just what are
the chances the event's winner will be from Florida? According to a
WSOP representative, pretty good: the Sunshine State is one of the
country's top five sources for tournament players hoping to score a seat
at the final round National Championship in Las Vegas.
