Last week, our sister paper had a story about a Florida man so terrified of spiders, he decided to get a giant tattoo of one on his face.
As a sort of inked-up reverse psychology that he'll probably regret when he's an old man. Or when he tries to grow a beard.
Well, now there's an important update on Spider-Face Guy: He's being sought by police because he's wanted on a felony charge.
It shouldn't take cops long to get to him, unless he disappears into a crowd of people with giant spider tattoos on their faces. Then the cops are totally screwed.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Eric Ortiz is wanted by authorities after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a box cutter.
Ortiz, 24, allegedly held the cutter to the woman's throat and threatened to cut her and leave her in a ditch. That incident occurred just four days after Ortiz and his face's brush with internet fame.
Police say Ortiz was able to get into his girlfriend's apartment around 3 a.m. on February 23 and woke her up. The two walked outside to talk things out. Ortiz, police say, tried to convince her to drop the charges she pressed against him.
The woman said she'd think about it, which prompted Ortiz to grab her by the hair, strike her, and demand that she drop the charges while threatening her, according to police.
Then things got weird. From the Daytona Beach News-Journal:
Ortiz then forced the woman to lie on the couch and he tried to rape her, reports state.Ortiz then put his arms around the woman and they fell asleep on the couch.
All right then.
The next morning, the woman asked a neighbor to call 911.
"Everybody fears spiders," Ortiz said about his tattoo last week. "Everybody looks at it like, 'Damn spider.' 'Cause if you're going around your house, you know what I'm saying, you see those spiders, you're going to jump, you're going to jump, so putting one on my face, I say you know what, I'm going to see what people think."
So, thanks to the incident with his lady, Ortiz is now being sought on charges of kidnapping, battery, false imprisonment, attempted sexual battery without force, tampering with a witness, robbery by sudden snatching, and preventing someone from calling 911, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
One wouldn't think someone with a giant spider on their face would be such a menace to society. But there you have it.
