The Greatest Basketball Player in the Universe LeBron James sat down with ABC's Robin Roberts to discuss all things going on under the sun. Among those things is his impending free agency in the summer of 2014 that is sure to get make the national media's head 'splode.
"I'm happy right now being in Miami," LeBron said.
SO THAT SETTLES IT!
(Ha. Ha. Just kidding. No it doesn't.)
LeBron's free agency is going to consume the shit out of the media all season long, making it THE NARRATIVE of the 2013-14 season ahead of the Dwight Howard, Brooklyn Nets, and Kobe's Injury story lines.
And, as it has been since he got here, the media will look for every possible pathway that links LeBron to the Lakers, or Knicks, or Cavaliers.
Because LeBron choosing Miami was obviously just some sort of an inconvenient stop. Like a layover in Newark.
"I'm happy right now being in Miami, obviously winning two championships in a row and hopefully everything works out," he told Roberts.
"But when that time comes upon us, I'll be able to tackle that. But happiness and life and what you do makes it easier to show up every day."
A pro athlete with perspective and nuance? INCONCEIVABLE!
LeBron also touched on the PED scandal that has rocked baseball lately (reminder: Our sister paper broke that news. We feel we need to remind readers of this since ESPN and Yahoo! Sports and Sun-Sentinel refuse to link back to our story).
"It sends a bad message," LeBron said of A-Rod. "It's unfortunate that we have a story like Alex Rodriguez. You never want to see controversy, because it's a direct effect to the kids that's coming after us. So many kids look up to us as roles models and leaders and inspiration."
The 2013-14 season will be the least scrutinized of LeBron's entire career. He's coming off consecutive MVPs, back-to-back NBA titles, a gold medal, Finals MVPs, and pretty much finally recognized for the superior athlete that he is.
He's obliterated all the nonsensical "no clutch gene" narratives, and has established himself as the most dominant force in the NBA.
And yet, the national media's obsession about what he decides to do in the summer of 2014 will, like those idiotic story lines, threaten to distract the world from his present greatness.
The LeBron James era is just getting started. Miami Heat fans need to drink it in and not take it for granted.
The rest of the country sure isn't going to do it.
