Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll has turned in her walking papers.
Carroll cites her connection to Allied Veterans -- a non-profit that operates internet cafes -- and president of the Jacksonville Florida Order of Police, Nelson Cuba being a possible distraction to the Scott administration.
Allied Veterans officials and Cuba were arrested days ago on racketeering charges after an investigation by the IRS and Secret Service.
Carroll turned in her resignation letter -- a whopping two sentences -- to Rick Scott on Monday.
Carroll was interviewed by Florida Law Enforcement last week about her consulting firm, 3N & JC, and their work for Allied Veterans, as well as her starring in one of their commercials back in 2010.
Allied now stands accused of money laundering, after the group allegedly used money from their nonprofit for personal gain, and by basically lying about the exact amount of money they donated to charities (hint: they kept a lot more than they donated).
Authorities claim that the Internet cafe's former president received more than $1.5 million while the group donated only two percent of the $290 million they made to charities.
Internet cafes operate under Florida's sweepstakes laws. Some say would call it gambling, while others, illegal gambling.
For her part, Carroll had filed legislation to make internet cafes a formal industry in the state, which makes things look even shadier for the now former Lieutenant Gov.
Carroll pulled the ole "someone that works for me did this without me knowing!" trick, and claimed that the filing was made by a member of her staff, without her knowledge. She promptly withdrew the bill, citing a conflict of interest.
This isn't the first time Carroll made distractions for Rick Scott.
Last year she got involved in a brouhaha with a former staffer who claimed to have walked in on a gay tryst between the Lt. Gov. and her travel aide.
The staffer who made these claims was later fired, and Carroll went on to insult lesbians the world over when she told a reporter who asked if she was gay, "Usually black women that look like me don't engage in relationships like that."
And that, as they say, is that.
"Lt. Gov. Carroll resigned in an effort to keep her former affiliation with the company from distracting from the administration's important work on behalf of Florida Families," said Adam Hollingsworth, Scott's chief-of-staff.
