He wasn't picked to be Mitt Romney's running mate, but that doesn't mean Marco Rubio can't do his part, damn it. Rubio will be introducing Romney on the final day of the Republican National Convention in Tampa on August 30.
Because Republicans and tea partiers love a good latherin' up via charismatic and vapid speakers, Mitt is hoping Rubio will give him a much-needed boost in a must-win state THROUGH THE MAGIC OF TALKING.
Rubio got some practice yesterday, introducing Romney to a crowd during a campaign stop in Miami. It was only a week ago that many thought Rubio was going to be Mitt's clear choice for running mate. Nate Silver wrote last week that if Romney wanted to win Florida, Rubio should be his guy.
Instead, Romney went with Ryan. And the polls are saying it was a poor choice.
For his part, Rubio was gracious about the Ryan pick, taking to the Twitter machine and writing: "@MittRomney has made a great choice picking @RepPaulRyan for #VP."
In a statement released by the RNC, Romney Campaign Manager Matt Rhoades says of Rubio: "We're honored to have him introduce Governor Romney at the Republican National Convention. Since the last night of the convention usually has the largest audience, it's a great opportunity to showcase leaders who will play an important role in shaping the future of the Republican Party. Marco Rubio is that kind of leader."
