Less than a month after a woman died following a procedure at a Weston plastic surgery clinic, the family of another woman who died after treatment from that same clinic is now suing the practice.
James Howard, along with his six children, claim that Alyne Medical Rejuvenation Institute Inc. and surgeon Dr. Alberto Sant Antonio botched Kellee J. Lee-Howard's anesthesia, killing her, according to a lawsuit recently filed in the Broward County Civil Court.
Court documents, which became public Monday, indicate that, on February 13, 2010, Kellee Howard went into Alyne for a liposuction procedure. She died the next day, allegedly of polydrug toxicity.
Howard's husband and his lawyers claim that the clinic failed to "appropriately administer Lidocaine," a common anesthetic.
The recent filing comes on the heels of another Alyne-related death as well as continued reports of plastic-surgery-related fatalities at popular South Florida clinics.
On June 11, Maria Shortall also went into Alyne for a $3,600 liposuction procedure. The 38-year-old mother of two stopped breathing midoperation. The housekeeper was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
