First there was the infamous Keith Wasserstrom letter. Now "friends" of the convicted corrupto are throwing him a rally.
In an email announcing the October 28 event, a group calling itself "Friends of Keith Wasserstrom" (you have to imagine that its president is "bobnormanisafool") once again claimed the former Hollywood Commissioner did nothing wrong. From the email, which was forwarded to the Pulp:
"Even the most Keith-unfriendly reporters stood agape in shock at the guilty verdict handed down last month. No one gathered in the courtroom believed there was enough evidence to convict, yet somehow the jury saw otherwise. No one who knows Keith believes that he is capable of the dishonesty of which he was accused, yet a group of strangers chose to convict him anyway."
Wasserstrom has finally exposed the fallacy of the jury trial system in America! Why, it's not "peers" at all -- it's total strangers! If his real peers -- people like Mayor Mara and Son Stacey and Bernie Friedman, et al -- had been on the jury, this bit of unpleasantness would have been avoided and all those mean reporters could have kept their mouths properly closed.
(For the record, though, the only time during the trial my mouth went agape was when Judge Lazarus threw out the main unlawful compensation charge against Wasserstrom.)
Hilariously, the rally is being held at Mara Giulianti Park (now there's a sign that needs vandalizing, people). Check out the flyer here. It asks the question: "Has Justice Been Served For Keith?"
No it hasn't. Not yet. He still needs to get his jail time.
[Just saw that the Sentinel's Ihosvani Rodriguez has a story about the rally this morning in which Wasserstrom says he is "touched" by the support. Aren't we all?]

Even the most Keith-unfriendly reporters stood agape in shock at the guilty verdict handed down last month. No one gathered in the courtroom believed there was enough evidence to convict, yet somehow the jury saw otherwise. No one who knows Keith believes that he is capable of the dishonesty of which he was accused, yet a group of strangers chose to convict him anyway.
Now, his fate rests in the judge's hands, and anything we do to show him support can help.
For all the good Keith has done for our community, he deserves our support and gratitude.
Here's how you can help: 1. Download, print and distribute this flyer: http://vblist.com/flyer.pdf 2. Forward this email to your friends and neighbors. 3. BE THERE on October 28
