This from Jack Lessenberry of Detroit's Metro Times:
I had dinner the other night with a fine reporter and writer who works in another city where I was once a consultant. She loves what she does, and is good at it; she covers community news and sports. She has done this all her life, and still enjoys it. But she is now 48 years old and is a little concerned about security. That's because she makes ... $28,000 a year.
That's enough to make me pray daily that all the executives of every large newspaper company, but especially Gannett, get some terrible skin infection that isn't covered by health insurance. What makes me maddest is not that they aren't paying this poor woman even half of what she is worth.
