No. 51: Burger from Jack's Old Fashion Hamburger House

Jack's, if the name isn't indication enough, is old-school. You won't find fancy cheeses or a wild assortment of toppings at the nearly 40-year-old establishment.

What you will get is a perfectly griddle-cooked burger, moist and greasy, served in decided simplicity. The beef is ground daily from fresh brisket. The yellow bun is sweet, soft, and dense, toasted nicely on the inside. Cheese and bacon are offered if you're into it, and lettuce and tomato cost extra and come on a baggie on the side. Toppings too are few; just a small spread of diced onion, pickles, and jalapeños from an aged bar, and a few custom sauces (the mustard relish is damned good). The point is, it's all about the beef itself at Jack's. And once you taste the flavor of the burger, you'll understand why it's been a favorite in Fort Lauderdale for so long.
