No. 61 Fried Jumbo Shrimp from Betty's Soul Food

Betty's Soul Food restaurant off Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale certainly exudes a mom-'n'-pop feel. It's a small eatery decorated with pictures of MLK and Obama alongside plaques from state representatives honoring the owner for a lifetime achievement award.  For the past 30 years, Betty Taylor is the woman behind the restaurant -- you will likely see her ringing up customers are the register or working in the kitchen.

It's difficult to pass up some of the mouth-watering soul-food standards, but her fried jumbo shrimp certainly deserves a special accolade. And when I say jumbo, I mean you need a spotter as you squat-thrust the mammoth shrimp from the plate to your mouth. Cradling juicy, succulent shrimp is a crusty batter both salty and sweet. Be sure to ask for a side of homemade tartar sauce to top the fantastic experience of crunching into this treat.
