Love bacon? Well, there's a new food event happening this week in honor of the hog's most famous part -- and it's free.

On Friday, October 3, Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and Covenant House Florida will be celebrating their inaugural Bacon Bash 2014, a special fundraising food and drink event that -- you guessed it -- is all about bacon.

The bacon-focused festival will take place in Fort Lauderdale's Esplanade Park from 6 to 10 p.m. and will feature live music provided by DayBreak Embrace with South Florida DJ Two Story Lori, a beer tent, and -- well, did we mention lots and lots of bacon?

Entrance to the event is free, but $20 tickets are on sale now for a beer-sampling cup that will give those 21 and older access to the event's onsite biergarten. The beer tent will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. and offer participants an unlimited sampling from an array of specialty and craft brews presented by sponsors Stephens Distributing and Sheehan Buick GMC.

If you're ready to bring on the bacon, be sure to bring some cash: You'll need $5 per plate to sample bacon-based and bacon-infused dishes from participating food trucks and restaurants, including the Daily Melt, Grille 401, Insane Cookies, Legends BBQ, M.E.A.T. Eatery & Taproom, Nacho Business, OB House, Public House, Rhino Doughnuts, Rok:Brgr, World Fusion Cuisine, Red Cow, New River Grill, and Miami Smokers.

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, a nonprofit organization responsible for the programming, beautification, and promotion of Riverwalk Park; and Covenant House Florida, a nonprofit dedicated to providing services and shelter to homeless children and youth.

Bacon Bash 2014 will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, October 3, at Esplanade Park located at 400 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale. To purchase $20 tickets in advance, visit tinyurl.com/kg8ghgd, available for pre-purchase until October 2. Biergarten entry passes will be available at entry the day of the event for $25.
