At least once a week, the powers that be at American Social try to work a philanthropic event into the lineup.
Tonight, they are playing host to a local group of young professionals who gather to raise money and awareness for autism while having a good time. This is the first happy hour in Broward for Autism Speaks South Florida.

"It's our first attempt also at hosting a young professionals event for Autism Speaks, as we call 'em, AS2YP," says event organizer Angelica P. Fernandez. "At Autism Speaks South Florida, we would like to bring together Broward's finest young professionals to create events that will raise funds and awareness for Autism Speaks, while providing networking opportunities for all involved."
The goal for the evening is to break $1,000, highly likely since the group has already successfully raised more than $375,000 nationally, which has helped fund biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and a cure for autism.
The event is also to help let people know about the upcoming Broward Walk on Saturday, October 26, at Nova southeastern University.
For a $10 donation, from 5:30 to 7 tonight, you can mingle with fellow young professionals as they drink and socialize and -- hopefully -- get a little less professional.
Your entry fee gets you a complimentary beverage as well as a blue Autism Speaks wristband and a warm fuzzy feeling inside. (This might be from the beverage, but it still feels good.)
Located smack in the middle of the Las Olas drag, American Social has 50-some brews on tap as well as self-serve table taps for those not inclined to flag down a bartender.
