Out with the old, and in with the new. That's the plan for longtime South Florida establishment Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill, which will close its doors later this week as part of a rebranding effort to develop a more modern waterfront dining destination.

Known for decades as one of Fort Lauderdale's most attractive waterfront establishments, Bimini will officially close its doors for business this Friday for a three-month renovation that will deliver a fresh new look and concept. According to the property's current owner, Fort Lauderdale-based Hudson Capital Group, the changes are being overseen as part of a joint venture with the Restaurant People, the South Florida hospitality group behind S3, YOLO and O Lounge, Vibe Las Olas, Tarpon Bend Food & Tackle, and Fork & Balls.

According to Hudson Capital Group CEO Steve Hudson, Fort Lauderdale could use more upscale waterfront dining concepts, and rebranding the 25-year-old establishment presents the perfect opportunity to deliver a modern waterfront dining experience to the area.

"To have stood the test of time in South Florida's ever-changing culinary landscape is a testament to the staying power and demand for this type of venue in Fort Lauderdale," said Tim Petrillo, president and cofounder of the Restaurant People. "Our collective goal [in this partnership] is to provide an innovative new concept unlike any other in the market, one that typifies and resonates with the yachting community and Fort Lauderdale as a whole. We see an incredible opportunity here."

Details on the new, yet-to-be-named establishment have not been released, but Petrillo said a major focus will be the redevelopment of the property's expansive outdoor patio and seating area, as well as the onsite dockage.

Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill, on SE 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale, will officially close its doors on Friday, July 10. Construction is expected to begin later this month, and the new establishment is scheduled to reopen in October. Visit therestaurantpeople.com for updates.

"This is a prime location and waterfront destination in Fort Lauderdale," said Petrillo. "Our goal with the reinvention of the establishment is to stay ahead of the curve and meet the needs of today's customers."

Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill is located at 1555 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-525-7400, or visit biminiboatyard.com.
