Snow birder New Yorkers may get to avoid the snow and slush by setting up shop in South Florida for the winter, but to hear talk of it, the transplantation comes with a price. Said price being they have to put up with subpar bagels, pizza, and sundry foodstuffs for the duration of the visit.

In case the name doesn't give it away, Brooklyn Water Bagel Company is all about the NYC bagel pride. Though the company isn't without its detractors (a franchisee filed a $2 million suit against the company in early 2012), it's also got a fair share of devotees. Curious to see if the product fits the bagel bill? The company will celebrate the opening of its 17th location this Saturday with free giveaways at the new Palm Beach Gardens store.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, the bagel store will be giving away a free coffee or small beverage with a purchase. They'll also have a drawing for free tickets to see SoFla's hometown heros, the Miami Heat.

The grand opening festivities also will highlight the adjacent Brooklyn Water Pizza & Pasta Co. located next door to the bagel store. This is the first pizza franchise for the Brooklyn Water brand and it opened in late fall of 2012. Does this mean a solution to the bagel/pizza quandary in location?
