South Florida will soon be home to a second ciderworks.

Broski Ciderworks Cidery & Winery, located in Pompano Beach Florida, will be the first production ciderworks to open in Broward County, one its founders hope is positioned for rapid expansion in the coming years.

Established in 2015, Broski Ciderworks - slang for brother - was founded by real life brothers David and Daniel Verdugo — one with a PhD in engineering and the other a certified beer cicerone.

"It's our way of saying we want all our fans to feel like they are part of the Broski family," says David.

A newcomer to the South Florida craft cider scene, which currently includes Accomplice Brewery & Ciderworks in West Palm Beach, David told New Times his goal is to push the boundaries of traditional cider brewing practices with a number of original recipes he's been developing over the past six years using cider apple juice sourced from across the US.

"We want this to be an American product," says David. "Most importantly, we want to make cider that everyone can enjoy."
When it opens this December, the Broski Ciderworks’ production facility will feature a 20-barrel brewhouse and a fully-dedicated aging room. All Broski ciders move from fermentation to flash pasteurization, a step David says makes his ciderworks unique. From there, they undergo aging for a minimum of six months, a final step David says allows the cider's flavor to mature and develop.

The brotherly duo say they hope to begin local distribution immediately, with plans to launch an in-house bottling line within the first year that will allow them to sell their ciders further north.

Come December, expect to find Broski's four core ciders — a crisp, dry, passion fruit, and sweet cider — for sampling at the ciderworks' 1,200-square-foot tasting room decorated with the brand's steampunk theme. Here, with a view of the production floor, over a half-dozen taps will pour seasonal, signature, and specialty release ciders alongside locally-sourced craft beer.

"Our plan is to focus on quality over quantity, producing small-batch ciders that we ferment and age right here," says David.
