The good news and the bad news about Cinco de Mayo is that May 5 falls on a Saturday this year. Good news for the obvious reasons (you won't have to develop an elaborate excuse for smelling like tequila at your morning work meeting) and bad news in that there's nothing stopping you -- and every other person in South Florida -- from saying "yes" to every taco/shot combo that comes your way. Sunday could be a very rough day, indeed.
With that in mind, moderation is key for a happy holiday weekend. Find a designated driver or cab, and party in style with a Cinco de Mayo celebration in South Florida. Details after the jump.
Tulum Mexican Grill & Bar -- Tulum will host a street festival from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday. The party is $40 for advance tickets or $50 at the door. Admission includes all-you-can-eat food from the Tulum kitchen, plus specials on Mexican brews and, of course, lots of tequila. Rocco's Tacos and Tequila Bar -- Rocco Mangel will travel to all four Rocco's Tacos and Tequila Bar locations (Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach Gardens) for bar-dancing, tequila swilling, and mustache-contest-judging insanity all day long on Saturday. Track his progress via Twitter (his handle is @RoccosTacos) to ensure you hit the party at just the right time.
Pinche Taqueria -- This new Wilton Manors bar/restaurant will host a party from noon to 3 a.m. on Saturday with drink and food specials like $2 tequila shots, $6.50 "skinny" Herradura margaritas, $3 Corona Light drafts, and lots of other boozy savings.
Cinco de Mayo in Delray Beach -- This family-friendly affair from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday is $10 for adults and free for kids ages nine years and younger. Food and drink are part of the festivities, as are the sixth annual Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Races from 5 to 6 p.m. and a chili-pepper-eating-contest from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The festival is at Old School Square in Delray Beach.
Uncle Julio's Fine Mexican Cuisine -- A Mizner Plaza block party means Latin dancing, a DJ, three outdoor bars, and lots of raucous, well-heeled party-goers. Drink specials and dancing from 4 p.m. to close Saturday. Call 561-300-3530.
Rosalita's Tex-Mex Grill -- All-day drink specials and a chance to ride a mechanical bull; what could possibly go wrong? Find out at this all-day fiesta from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. There's kid-friendly fare, like face-painting and a magician, plus a full bar for the grown-ups.
Salsa Fiesta -- This Mexican restaurant in Pembroke Pines has stretched the party to two days, with drink and food specials on Friday and Saturday. Music provided by a DJ, with select beers offered for $2.50 and margaritas and sangria going for $3 each.
