When it comes to dining out, kids get all the perks. They can eat and drink for next to nothing. They get free entry to food and drink events. They get to draw and color at the dinner table. They even get toys. All grownups get is the check.

Now, thanks to a monthlong special offer at a local burger joint, nostalgic adults can get in on the happy-type meal action too. Now through February, the Filling Station in Oakland Park is giving grownups a chance to travel back in time and indulge in their inner child — and they've dubbed the monthlong lunch special "The Refuel."

In honor of a new year, the Broward-based restaurant wants to thank customers with some super savings. After relocating from downtown Miami to Oakland Park last year, the Filling Station is rewarding loyal customers (and new Filling Station fans) with its own version of an adult meal deal that will have you reminiscing about the Happy Meals of your youth. Except this time with beer instead of a carton of milk or juice.

That means you can enjoy the Filling Station's Ultimate Great American Bacon Cheeseburger, served with a side of its signature tater tots and a pint of draft beer, for $11. The offer is valid from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through February.

Designed to cure even the most intense hunger pangs, this burger patty is topped with American cheese, candied bacon, and a combination of homemade buttermilk ranch dressing and chipotle ketchup.

"This is usually a time when people cut back on what they're spending and what they're eating," says Filling Station executive chef Adam Feigeles. "This is our take on an adult Happy Meal featuring one of our biggest, baddest burgers with a side of tater tots — and a pint of beer — all for a good price."

In addition to launching the savory meal deal, the restaurant has introduced a number of weekly specials, including a happy hour that takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in which patrons can order from the "El Cheapo" taco menu offering $1 crispy chicken, Cajun-spiced fish, and house-smoked pulled-pork tacos (or $3 seared ahi tuna and steak tacos) with $4 draft beer.

The Filling Station and Garage Bar is located at 3200 NE 12th Ave., Oakland Park. Call 954-908-5225, or visit tfsftl.com.
