Direct From Philly in Deerfield Beach: Delicious Cheesesteaks in a Gas Station

There are no signs around the area telling you about the cheesesteak gem Direct from Philly. In fact, with fast food joints like Wendy's and Burger King on either side of the gas station, you are more likely to give up trying. Friendly advice: do not give up.

Once you arrive, you'll have your option of nearly 10 different varieties of Philly cheesesteaks. Really, it comes down to liking Pat (cheese whiz) or Gino (provolone cheese) better. (Here's  a history lesson on Pat and Geno.)

You can try both if you'd like (I did), but there really is no need. Pat's is far better. Sliced rib eye, grilled onions and cheese whiz stuffed into a 9-inch hoagie roll imported from Philadelphia. For gas station grub, I was elated. Especially for a joint that has been stuffing hoagies for only four months.

For a sandwich that is $6.95, you can add a drink for $1.29 and still go back to work with a full belly and wallet. If you're close enough, Direct from Philly may even deliver. Most order to go, since there are about eight total stools for dining in.

If you've got some extra room, don't doubt the wings. For $5.95, you get 10 wings tossed in your choice of mild, medium, hot, BBQ or - my personal favorite - garlic teriyaki. They were crispy, juicy and exceptionally large for the price. I would have stayed just for the wings.

Don't follow the online menu. They are actually open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and no longer serve breakfast or cold sandwiches, due to the high demand of Philly cheesesteaks.
