We have a national holiday for pretty much everything: Old Maid's Day, Ball Point Pen Day, Leave the Office Early Day (that's actually a good one), the list goes on and on.
While one could argue some are sexist (Old Maid's Day) and others are ridiculous (we all know fountain pens are way better), some holidays are all about taking a moment to reflect on the important things in life; you know, what really matters.
Like doughnuts.
Friday is National Doughnut Day; to celebrate the greatest fried pastry in history -- yes, we're talking to you, doughnut/croissant hybrid -- Dunkin' Donuts is giving away free product.

All day long, participating Dunkin' Donuts locations throughout the country are offering guests a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage.
Being that it's a national holiday and all, the stores are going big. Guests can choose from any kind of fried dough selection for the day, from original glazed or old fashioned to Boston Kreme and jelly.
To make it more interesting, the chain has recently unveiled a new summer option. Yesterday it released a new blueberry cobbler donut. It's a yeast shell with blueberry filing, white dipping icing, and coffee cake streusel topping.
Although it sounds like a holiday invented by the doughnut industry, National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday falls on the first Friday of June every year.
Don't worry: You can always throw in an extra CrossFit session or two to make up for the calories -- hey, it's a holiday.
