5. Sunday Comfort Cooking at the Grille

Eating out gets to be heavy on the wallet. As much as you may enjoy going out and ordering multi-course meals, it's not practical unless you have deep pockets -- if you do, by all means, go ahead. This Sunday, Grille 401 is launching a new dinner series of prix fixe home-style cooked family dinner called Sunday Comfort Cooking at the Grille. For $29 per adult, $11 per kid, the meal includes special entrée, a glass of house wine and choice of dessert. This week it's featuring a Certified Angus Beef Meatloaf topped with shiitake stroganoff served with parmesan potatoes. With choice of white chocolate bread pudding, flourless chocolate waffle, key lime pie, and seasonal fruit with cream.

4. 100+ Abandoned Dogs Fundraiser at Union

Who doesn't love animals and socializing on the weekend -- if you don't, you just suck at life. Here's your chance to support homeless and abused pets while hanging out with other like-minded animal-lovers. On Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m., Union Sushi is hosting a fundraiser for 100+ Abandoned Dogs. Sponsored by Tito's Vodka, the event will feature a guest appearance by former NFL player Sabatino Piscitelli and other soon-to-be announced celebrity guests. Raffles and silent auctions will also be included. There is no cost to attend. Visit facebook.com/events/229942133874034/.

3. A Taste of History

Chances are you're going to dine out over the weekend (we mean, you are currently reading a food blog), you might as well learn something in the process. From 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Tarpon Bend, archaeologists from Florida Public Archaeology Network Southeast Region will be exploring that evolution of the past 10,000 years of food in South Florida, from Ice Age mammoths -- yes, it did get cold on this strip of land at one point in time - to grocery stores and burger stands. For $45 per person, guests will be treated to a specialty cocktail, appetizers, main course, and dessert all designed to fit the theme of the evening, paired with fascinating conversation. The Florida Public Archaeology Network aims to promote conservation, study, and public awareness of Florida's unique archaelogical heritage. Advance registration is required and space is limited; so, reserve a spot as soon as possible. Visit tasteofhistory.eventbrite.com
