The place: American Rock Bar & Grill, 1600 E. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach. Call 954-428-4539.

The hours: 4 to 8 p.m., 8 p.m. to close every night.

The deal: The evening happy hour gets you three for one; the later one gets you two for one. They both cover wells, calls, martinis, house wines, and light draft beers. Five dollar Jäger and Patrón are also offered during happy hour.

The digs: American Rock Bar is the Gobots to Hard Rock Cafe's Transformers.

This local rock bar features two large rooms lined with rock posters (find your favorite!) and bathrooms graffitied in homage to Pink Floyd with random band logos interspersed. Nothing particularly valuable or iconic is displayed yet, though the Library Bar in the backroom could be priceless to Deerfield Beach history buffs and/or fans of the written word. Live music, DJs, and other events take it over throughout the week.

All the food items on the menu reference a band or artist, though for the most part the names seem random. Sure, one can see the New York Strip referred to as the New York Dolls, the Spinach Dip as Spin Doctors, or Prince as the Pesto Angel Hair; but what the Allman Brothers have to do with ziti alfredo, Sonic Youth with steamed clams, or Nirvana with nachos is unknown -- though it does give you something to talk about while you wait for your order. Oddly, with all this creativity, the things that are usually given clever names, like pizza dishes, desserts, and specialty drinks, are all named normally. The daily food specials also unfortunately contain no references.

The verdict: If you're up for some heavy drinking on low-calorie draft beers or any of a number of liquors in a rock 'n' roll atmosphere, then this is the place.
