If the bitterness of missing the first two days of Hop Week at Tequesta Brewing Company has already set in, don't worry the week is not over.

The brewery is celebrating Hop Week, coinciding with the annual harvest of humulus lupulus, or the seed cones of the hop plant. Several special batches of IPAs (India pale ales) and pale ales were brewed and are currently being rotated through the taps in the Tequesta Brewing tap room. The first two days of the week have come and gone, but the event lasts until Sunday, September 27.

To make all of the beer, Tequesta had over 100 pounds of six varieties shipped overnight across the country, creating a nice aroma in the brew house as well as one heck of a shipping bill. The hops were wet, meaning they were freshly picked and sent to the brewery before they were processed into dry pellets. The hop varieties used in the beer were Citra, Centennial, Equinox, Simcoe, Galaxy, Cascade and Mosaic.

Several once-per-year brews were missed already:

Monday

  • Session IPA with Citra hops (full batch)
  • Belgian rye pale ale with Simcoe hops (one keg)
  • American rye IPA hopped twice with Cascade and Simcoe hops (one keg)

Tuesday

  • American rye IPA with Cascade hops aged on American oak (one keg)
  • Two casks of black IPA, one with Cascade hops

But several more are slated to pour:

Wednesday

  • One full batch of black IPA with Mosaic and Simcoe wet hops
  • One keg of double IPA brewed with white peaches and Mosaic wet hops
  • A Belgian tripel cask with sloe berries, Centennial hops and French oak (tapping at 5 p.m.)

Thursday

  • A full batch of double IPA with Mosaic wet hops
  • One keg of Session IPA with Tamarind and Amarillo dry hops

Friday

  • One keg of Gnarly Barley with Equinox wet hops
  • A Randall packed with Equinox wet hops and flowing with black IPA (4-8 p.m.)

Saturday

  • One keg of barrel-aged Gnarly Barley with Centennial hops and soured with Brettanomyces yeast
  • Double IPA brewed with jalapeños and Equinox wet hops

Hop Week is not the only special thing happening around Tequesta Brewing. The company is also expanding with an additional brewery located in Palm Beach Gardens on the corner of PGA Boulevard and Ellison Wilson.

Co-owners Matt Webster and Fran Andrewlevich first opened Tequesta Brewing in 2011. The original brew house next to Corner Café and Brewery will be kept, but the extra 5,700 square-foot space will house additional brewing equipment that could possibly quadruple production capacity, says Andrewlevich.

Andrewlevich hopes the construction to be completed by December.
